Spa offers facial treatment using breast milk

There is a new market for breast milk and its not just for babies.

Body builders and a spa is using it in a facial treatment, according to FOX32 NEWS

But some question if this new trend is safe or effective.

Mud spa in Chicago is offering the treatment.

"I really wanted to come up with something that is quick, effective, that appealed to the urban city girl," owner Shama Patel said.

Patel said the spa buys milk from Chicago-area mothers who are medically screened.

"There are so many mommy blogs out there that talk about using breast milk to basically help with skin conditions," she said.
But does it really do anything for your skin?

Elina Fedotova, found of the Association of Holistic Skin Care Practitioners, said breast milk has been known to tame acne and soothe eczema.

"Breast milk exists to protect the baby, to stimulate the baby's immune system, so it has anti-bacterial, anti-septic properties."

FOX32 also spoke to a registered dietitian.

"It's rich in fat, it's rich in good nutrients that are helpful for developing babies. There is no scientific data that says that this would be a preferred food or fuel for body builders or anyone in general," Lara Field said.

Many experts say that drinking breast milk to get buff is probably not going to work and If you're squeamish about the idea of using it on your face, coconut milk has similar properties.
